I would love a good high-flow mandrel bent exhaust, but the aftermarket ones that are pre-made for the Z are outrageous! I can't imagine paying $800 to $1500 for about $250 worth of parts and tubing. Of course, I am one cheap bastard, but hey - I'm a poor student-type ... shoot me. :) I've found about a dozen places that sell preformed mandrel bends in 304 stainless for $12-25 per bend. Straight tubing in 304 stainless is really cheap too. High flow cats can be found for $60 each and then straight-through mufflers can be found for VERY cheap (for instance a Cherry Bomb for $20 ... though I would want to paint it!). Add in a couple 304 stainless resonators at $25 each and a couple chrome resonating tips for looks and better pitch and wham ... hi-flow exhaust including new high-performance cats for cheap (I've done a good deal of research on back pressure, flow velocity etc and obviously would use components that provide high performance at low cost ... there are plenty). With the resonators added in and retained cats, it should be nice and quiet too (I'm anti-loud for exhaust systems) and have no problems passing emmissions. The welding could be annoying though which I guess is why I'm asking if anyone has ever done this before. Heck, even J.C. Whitney sells mandrel bends, clamps, adapter plates, hangers and the like for very little $$. I can't imagine that this would be too difficult if you have the welding gear ... the guys I know at our muffler shop near here haven't even finished high school yet - how tough could it be? You could screw up a dozen times and still not invest the amount of $$ that a pre-made aftermarket system costs (and again, you get new cats with it ... a big plus in my opinion). So, had anyone here tried it? Just curious. Thanks all.
